Nomophobia is a type of anxiety disorder that shows up when people lose cell phone connectivity.  It’s what causes some people to be on their phones constantly. To see it in a chart, first note the asteroid Canova #6256 for Smartphones and Porter #1636 for cell phones. Check also Gray #236616 for phones. See them as essentially interchangeable.

Then think about a phobia.  It can cause irrational fear; so is Saturn aspecting one of the phone points?  It can cause anxiety. Is the TNP or asteroid Zeus in a phone axis? Are they very strong in the chart? A phobia can produce feelings that are out of proportion to the circumstances.  That’s the asteroid Ophelia’s work.  Is it aspecting a personal or phone point?  Having any of these strong in the chart can invite the reliance on technology.  Speaking of that, you may want to check the Uranus/Neptune  midpoint as it may address the dependence on computers and cell phones.

There is a kind of addiction quality here.  Bacchus or Dionysus in aspect?  There’s also the pressure and Have-To of Vulcanus or Vulcano.  One of them aspecting?

As you evaluate these phone factors in a chart, the aspecting points will describe what the constant connection is attempting to accomplish.  With Persephone, it’s about soothing an Alone.  With Venus, it can be a way around uncertain social skills. To Sappho, it’s a route to find friendship or Like Minds.  To Cupido, it can be an attempt to find and feel Family and Relationship.  If to the Ascendant, it can be a way to ease the tension of personal interaction. It replaces some of the defenses a person needs to interact comfortably in person.

None of this means that points like Lie, Wiles or Pluto can’t be very relevant when lots of interaction occurs on a phone!

Too, it seems that we are also seeing a new kind of hypnotism.  Hypnosis is defined as fixed attention of the mental faculties and the visual eye on one object!  Where you sense a level of hypnotic effect, check the chart for the asteroids Charcot #11314 and Bernheim #3467.

strange times!
