Shown here is the coming 18 Pisces 56 solar eclipse depicted on a 90* dial.
While you'd want to focus on how the eclipse degree is affecting your radix
and directed chart, let's give some thought to the way that using a dial
organizes your work and thoughts. As well as their personal impact, the
Agenda of events that an eclipse pushes is shown to us in public events. So
even if the eclipse isn't pushing (rudely) into your chart, you can still
see it through events on the news or in the lives of people you know.

The 90* DIAL AXIS:
The "cross" that you see drawn on this chart indicates "the dial axis". On
a dial, factors in the Cardinal signs are entered in the 00-29:59 degree
area on the left side of the dial. Factors in the Fixed signs are entered
in the 30-59:59 degree area and Mutable factors are shown in the 60-89:59
area. There are all entered by MODE--regardless of the sign. Notice for
example that Pluto, in 17 Capricorn, is entered in the same degree of the
dial with the Rx Zeus in 17 Libra. That's part of the genius of dials. By
condensing the zodiac, it allows you to instantly see points in aspect.
Points entered close together on the dial can be conjunctions, squares or
oppositions. Another example: Demeter in 17 Sag 33 is square the eclipse--
and you realize an aspect just by visual inspection. (You can have a copy
of the chart with the degree and signs shown available.) But just a glance
tells you that Demeter issues (parent-child, care-giving, food,
self-nurturing, children) are going to be part of the eclipse. Then you add
other axis factors for further explanation and detail.

The axis includes points that are opposite on the dial. This is easy to see
because all you have to do is add or subtract 15. In other words, if the
target point-here the eclipse in 18:56 Mutable--is, by degree, higher than
15 (as it is,) you subtract 15 for a result of 03. So you look across the
dial and know that the 45 and 135* aspects will occur in 03* of the Fixed
signs. Note the Ophelia, Rx in 03 Leo 44. The chart quickly tells you to
add delineations of Ophelia, Rx to your characterization of the eclipse; you
are then expecting counterproductive reactions and, given the retrograde,
those reactions may not be immediately obvious but they aren't "natural" or
"real" given the events.

The QUADRATURES:
As you look at the cross on the chart, see that it extends to both 11:26
Cardinal in the upper left and to 26:26 Fixed on the lower right. If you
divide 90* by 4, your result is 22:30 degrees-- 1/4 of the dial. The axis
of a factor then includes these two areas, and factors very close by further
detail the issues the target factor (here, the eclipse) will produce. For
instance, in 10 Cancer 58 is the asteroid, Siwa; in 12 Aries 11 is the
asteroid, Amor. So your thoughts may run to the issue of the need for
(Amor) personal boundaries when dealing with someone who is (Siwa) enraged
or destructive. (Note: the other quadrature is opposite on the dial. Here
the 11:26 is less than 15, so you add 15 and move to the opposite section of
the dial to the 26:26 Fixed area.) There you find Venus, the asteroid,
Poseidon, and the asteroid, Kron, within orb. Now the eclipse begins to get
tricky on you! It suggests that the eclipse will test how you (Amor) hold
to boundaries with (Siwa) angry people when you actually (Venus) love them.
You might see tests of (Amor) boundaries because of your personal (Poseidon)
beliefs about (Venus) love and (Poseidon) the soul or Mystical Oneness. You
may see (Ophelia, Rx) modified reactions to (Poseidon) religions of (Siwa)
Asia and The Middle East. You may think about the (Amor) borders of
countries in the (Siwa) Middle East with reference to (Kron) laws. Another
thread will have some people dealing with (Amor) acceptance and boundaries
in terms of their (Kron) father.

There's also a big TRIANGLE on the chart:
It shows the other aspects: the sextile, the inconjunct or the trine. See
here where the "triangle" point in the Cardinal area picks up on Uranus in
18 Aries 42 andToro in 19 Cancer 47; Uranus is inconjunct the eclipse and
Toro is trine. So the dial easily shows you the major aspect pattern of any
point this quickly. Rather than drive yourself crazy with the form of the
aspect, initially delineate the way the factors themselves would interact.
And it's all part of the story; now we have the boundary/acceptence stuff
tossed in with the potential for sudden abuse or threats. (I would include
Zeus and Lilith in delineation. This can mean anger and hostility related
to gender, rejection, or evident in a rivalry. Remember that Zeus can
manifest as military action, guns, or explosions. The Uranus adds the idea
of sudden, revolutionary, unexpected, emotionally detached or "in the name
of social change.")

The WORKING DIAL:
A smaller, laminated "working dial" is then placed over the chart. It
instantly shows the axis, the triangle, and simplifies locating midpoints
and doing formulas, but that's a discussion for another time!

Another way to add to your interpretation of an eclipse is to incorporate
MIDPOINTS. We don't have room here for a full list but consider:
Mars/Kronos (19 Vi 48) where there can be a focus on contentious legal
cases, taking the law into one's own hands, arguments with the father or
boss, or challenges to authorities, opinions or goverment officials;
Mars/Hades (17 Vi 28) where you become aware of criminal activity, angry
attempts to demean or undermine a person; how depression affects the energy
level and the potential for terrorism; Saturn/Node (03 Sc 59-- and yes,
midpoints to any of the axis points are delineated as further definition of
the target--here the eclipse) where there can be separation in connections,
the need to assume responsibilty for someone in your close circle, or
meetings in connection with the career or ambitions; Jupiter/Node (20 Virgo
00) which could bring grandchildren, fortunate connections, and mentoring
type relationships. In 05 Taurus, the Mercury/Hades midpoint which will be
strongly featured in the coming lunar eclipse in 03 Libra, can bring
attempts to slander, mental, oral or written mistakes, an intellectual
interest in history or the classics, and a need to monitor negativity in the
self-talk. You would also include Hades/Malpighi (one of the medical
asteroids) for concerns about problems in blood tests, possible decline in
lung function, or concern about bacteria or viruses or as a result of mites
or vermin. (So I think Zika qualifies here.)

Of course there are many more midpoints, but our first concern here was to
explain and demonstrate more about the use of a 90* dial. When you're
adding so many asteroids to your delineations, using a dial to organize the
aspect information frees you to focus on complex and detailed
interpretation. (Would you please let me know if you are able to print
this?)
